Building liberatory spaces isn’t easy under capitalism. I help groups who operate outside of the box navigate these systems without compromising their values.

A liberatory space centers people with marginalized identities in its design to support healing, social justice, and collective liberation.

Creating Liberatory Spaces

Aherlow Kasjaka (they/them)

Hi! I have been working in community organizing and health equity for the last decade. In 2022, I stewarded the co-creation of The Liberation Collective (TLC), a cooperatively shared community space where a collective of organizers, mutual aid workers, and healers lead events and groups supporting healing and social justice. Through my journey navigating an array of spaces including government, nonprofits, and mutual aid spaces, I have a wholesome perspective about the challenges one can (and will) face when creating liberatory spaces, and I am practiced at navigating these challenges. The systems in place don’t want us to be liberated and, therefore, don’t want these spaces to exist. But they can (and do) exist—and I want to help others discover their path to creating liberatory spaces sustainably and collaboratively.
